Frequently Asked Questions about our Hog Roast & BBQ Services

Q: What is the minimum number of guests required for a Hog Roast or BBQ? A: For our full on-site service—where our professional chefs cook and serve at your venue—we typically require a minimum of 50 guests. This ensures we can deliver the high-quality theatrical experience you expect. However, we know that intimate gatherings are special too. For smaller parties under 50 people, we offer our exclusive Delivered Hot Buffet service. We slow-cook the meat to perfection at our Redruth catering kitchen and deliver it piping hot to your home or holiday cottage, ready for you to enjoy immediately.

Q: Do you provide Hog Roast catering across all of Cornwall and Devon? A: Yes, we are one of the South West's premier mobile catering companies. While our home base is in Redruth, we regularly travel to deliver weddings and events in Truro, St Ives, Newquay, Falmouth, Padstow, and Plymouth. Whether you are hosting a beach wedding on the North Coast or a corporate event in South Devon, our team is happy to travel to remote locations, private farms, and holiday homes.

Q: Can you cater for Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten-Free guests? A: Absolutely. We believe the plant-based options should be just as exciting as the main roast. Our Cornish BBQ catering packages always include premium options like gourmet vegan burgers and marinated vegetable skewers. For our Hog Roast feasts, we prepare separate vegetarian main courses—such as a Mediterranean Halloumi or Vegetable Tagine—cooked on a separate grill to ensure strictly no cross-contamination for your guests with dietary requirements.

Q: Do you need electricity or a kitchen at the venue? A: We are completely self-sufficient, which makes us the ideal choice for marquee weddings, festival-style parties, or field events where power is limited. Our bespoke roasting equipment runs on gas and charcoal to create that authentic smoky flavour. We simply require a flat 3x3 metre outdoor space for our gazebo and serving tables. If you are hosting a large event that requires extra lighting or heating, we can advise on generator hire, but our kitchen does not require it.

Q: Does your catering quote include staff to serve the food? A: Yes. We pride ourselves on offering a complete service. All our Hog Roast and BBQ packages include professional, uniformed chefs to carve the meat and friendly waiting staff to serve your guests. We manage the entire food service flow—from setting up the mobile kitchen to clearing away the plates and rubbish—allowing you to relax and enjoy your wedding reception or party without lifting a finger.

Q: What happens if it rains on the day of our outdoor event? A: As experienced Cornish caterers, we are fully prepared for the unpredictable British weather! We bring our own professional, heavy-duty gazebos to fully cover the cooking and serving station. We can cook happily in the rain while your guests remain dry inside your marquee, barn, or venue. We serve the food buffet-style from under our shelter, ensuring the feast goes ahead rain or shine.

Q: How long does the meat take to cook? A: We believe in "low and slow" cooking. We slow-roast our prime pork joints for 4 to 6 hours over charcoal to ensure the meat is incredibly tender and the crackling is perfectly crisp. We arrive on-site well in advance (typically 1–2 hours before service) to set up the kitchen and ensure the food is ready to be carved exactly at your scheduled serving time.

Q: Do you provide plates and cutlery? A: Yes, to make your event hassle-free, we include high-quality, sturdy disposable plates, wooden cutlery, and napkins as standard with every booking. If you are planning a more formal wedding breakfast and prefer real china crockery and silverware, we can arrange this for an additional fee, or we are happy to work alongside your venue’s hired equipment.
