Cornish summers were made for garden parties. A milestone birthday in the back garden. A family reunion in a farmer's field. A christening in the churchyard. An anniversary celebration on the lawn. Whatever the occasion, Salt Wind Catering brings everything we need and leaves nothing behind. No kitchen required. No power. Just a flat patch of grass and we'll handle the rest.
Live Cooking in Your Garden
Our hog roast is the ultimate garden party centrepiece — a whole hog slow-roasted over real charcoal for eight hours, carved fresh with apple sauce, sage and onion stuffing, and crusty rolls. It feeds 80 to 200 guests.
Our BBQ catering brings charcoal-grilled burgers, sausages, chicken, ribs, and pulled pork with homemade sides and fresh salads. Perfect scale for smaller gardens.
Our giant pan catering adds a Mediterranean feel — fresh paella, tagine, or curry cooked live in massive pans.
Delivered Garden Party Food
For garden parties where you don't want on-site cooking, our delivered buffets work beautifully. Grazing platters with charcuterie, Cornish cheeses, and seasonal fruit look stunning on a garden table. Cornish seafood platters — dressed lobster, crab, king prawns — elevate any garden gathering.
Our afternoon tea option — finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, mini cakes — is a classic garden party format. Our Pimp Your Prosecco station adds a celebratory interactive element that guests love.
Space & Access
We need surprisingly little space. For a BBQ setup, a 3m x 3m area of flat ground is enough. For a hog roast, we need slightly more room. We assess access before every event and for properties with limited vehicle access, we carry equipment in by hand.
Weather Planning
This is Cornwall, so we always have a weather plan. A gazebo over the cooking and serving area protects the food in all conditions. Our equipment handles rain, wind, and sunshine equally well. We hold a 5-star food hygiene rating and full NCASS accreditation. All dietary requirements catered for. For pricing, see our 2026 catering cost guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best catering style for a garden party?
It depends on the size and style of your event. For relaxed gatherings of 20 to 50 people, grazing platters and delivered buffets work brilliantly. For larger garden parties with 50 to 150 guests, a charcoal BBQ or hog roast gives you a real centrepiece. We can advise based on your numbers and garden layout.
Do you need access to a kitchen for garden party catering?
No. We are completely self-sufficient and bring everything we need including gas, charcoal, water, serving equipment, and waste disposal. All we need is a reasonably flat area to set up. We have catered in gardens with no power or running water without any problems.
What happens if it rains on the day?
We carry gazebos and shelters for the cooking area, so rain does not stop us. For your guests, it is worth having a backup plan like a nearby marquee or conservatory. Our hog roasts and BBQs have been through plenty of Cornish showers and the food always comes out perfectly.
How much space do you need in the garden?
For a BBQ or hog roast setup, we need roughly a four metre by three metre area on firm ground. We will check your garden layout with you at booking stage and suggest the best positioning for cooking, serving, and guest flow.
