Marquee Wedding Catering — Self-Sufficient Food for Field, Garden & Clifftop Weddings

Half the weddings in Cornwall do not happen in hotels or function rooms. They happen in fields, gardens, farmyards, and clifftop sites with a marquee, a tipi, or a stretch tent. These are the weddings that need caterers who can work anywhere — no mains power, no kitchen, no running water, sometimes no road. Salt Wind Catering is completely self-sufficient. We bring everything we need and leave nothing behind.

Why Marquee Weddings Suit Our Setup

Our hog roast catering and BBQ catering were designed for exactly these situations. A flat patch of grass near the marquee is all we require. We arrive with our own charcoal, gas, prep stations, water supply, gazebos, serving tables, and staff. All cooking happens outside in our covered setup adjacent to the marquee, and the food is brought inside ready to serve.

We work with all marquee types — traditional pole marquees, clear-span frame marquees, tipis, stretch tents, sailcloth tents, and yurts. For tipis and open-sided structures, we position the cooking area upwind so the aromas drift through naturally — guests love watching the hog roast from their seats.

Planning the Food Timeline

A popular format is canapés during the drinks reception while photos are being taken, then a hog roast or BBQ wedding breakfast served mid-afternoon after speeches, followed by evening buffet platters or grazing cart stations for the party. We plan timing around your ceremony, photographs, and speeches so food arrives at exactly the right moment.

For couples wanting something different, our giant pan catering — paella, tagine, or curry cooked live in front of guests — creates a spectacular centrepiece alongside the marquee. Our Cornish seafood platters and afternoon teas add elegant premium options. See our full guide to crafting your perfect wedding menu.

What We Handle on the Day

We arrive several hours before service to set up. The hog goes on first thing in the morning if it is the main course — eight hours of slow-roasting means we are often on-site before anyone else. Our team handles all food preparation, cooking, serving, and clearing up. You do not need to organise volunteers or ask the venue to provide anything. We leave the site as we found it.

Dietary requirements are handled as standard — our vegan and vegetarian catering is always available alongside the main menu. Gluten-free options on request. For pricing, see our 2026 catering cost guide. We hold a 5-star food hygiene rating and full NCASS accreditation.

Frequently Asked Questions — Marquee Wedding Catering

Do you need a power supply or kitchen at the marquee site?

No. We are completely self-sufficient. We bring our own charcoal, gas, prep stations, water supply, and serving equipment. All we need is a reasonably flat area near the marquee for our cooking setup.

Can you cater a full day from canapés through to evening food?

Yes. Our most popular marquee wedding package covers canapés during the drinks reception, a hog roast or BBQ wedding breakfast, and evening buffet platters or grazing cart stations for the party. We plan timing around your ceremony, photographs, and speeches.

What if the marquee site has narrow lane access?

We plan vehicle access carefully in advance and have experience with remote Cornish sites accessed by single-track lanes. We arrive with extra time built in and use appropriately sized vehicles. We have never failed to deliver because of access issues.

Do you cover marquee weddings in Devon as well as Cornwall?

Absolutely. We regularly cater marquee weddings across Devon including the South Hams, Dartmoor, and beyond. A travel supplement applies, quoted upfront. See our Devon catering page for details.
