When a family is dealing with a bereavement, sorting the food for a wake shouldn't be another source of stress. At Salt Wind Catering, we handle wake catering quietly and professionally. You tell us what you need, how many people, and where — we take care of the rest.

What We Provide

Most families choose a combination of our sandwich platters and savoury platters — classic finger food that's easy to serve and suits all ages.

For colder months, our hot buffet platters add warming comfort food — mac and cheese, chilli, lasagne, shepherd's pie. Sweet platters and our cream tea option complete the spread.

How We Handle Wake Bookings

We understand that wake arrangements often come together quickly. We can take bookings at short notice — often within 24 to 48 hours — and we always prepare slightly more than the estimated head count so there's enough if more people attend than expected.

Common Wake Venues

We deliver wake catering to homes, village halls, church halls, pubs, community centres, and any other venue across Cornwall. For wakes at home, we deliver the food packaged and ready to set out on your own table.

How Much to Order

A basic wake buffet for 30 people might cost from around £200 to £250. For larger gatherings, expect £300 to £500. We provide honest guidance and won't oversell. For general pricing, see our 2026 catering cost guide.

We hold a 5-star food hygiene rating and full NCASS accreditation. All dietary requirements catered for.

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can you arrange wake catering?

We can usually arrange wake catering within 24 to 48 hours. In many cases, a single phone call is all it takes to confirm the menu, numbers, delivery time, and venue. We understand the urgency and keep the process as simple as possible.

What if more people turn up than expected?

We always prepare a generous buffer above the estimated head count for exactly this reason. Wake attendance is unpredictable and we would rather have food left over than run short. You will not be charged extra for this buffer.

Can a funeral director book on our behalf?

Yes. We work with several funeral directors across Cornwall who book our catering on behalf of the family. We are happy to liaise directly with the funeral director to keep things simple for the family.

Do you collect the trays and packaging afterwards?

Yes. We can collect everything at a time that suits you, either later the same day or the following day. Just let us know what works best and we will arrange it.
