Planning a wedding in Cornwall means you've already nailed the setting. Now you need food that lives up to it. At Salt Wind Catering, we provide everything from elegant grazing spreads to hearty hog roasts for weddings across Cornwall and Devon. Based in Redruth, we know this county inside out — and we know what works at a Cornish wedding.
Wedding Buffet Options That Actually Work
Our event and party catering collection is built for weddings of every style. For a relaxed wedding breakfast, our hog roast is the ultimate centrepiece — a whole hog slow-roasted over charcoal for eight hours, carved fresh in front of guests. For more variety, our BBQ catering brings charcoal-grilled options that suit the outdoor Cornish wedding style perfectly.
For an elegant reception, our grazing platters and Cornish seafood platters create a premium spread — dressed lobster, crab, artisan cheeses, charcuterie, and seasonal fruit. Our giant pan catering — fresh paella cooked live in a massive pan — adds Mediterranean flair to a coastal wedding.
Planning the Wedding Day Food
A wedding day typically needs three food moments: canapés during the drinks reception while photographs are happening, the main wedding breakfast in the afternoon, and evening food for the party. We plan all three around your schedule and make sure each feels different so guests never feel like they're eating the same thing twice.
A popular combination is canapés and prosecco welcome, hog roast wedding breakfast at 3pm, then evening buffet platters and a donut dunking bar from 8pm. This gives you three distinct food experiences across the day at a price that undercuts most traditional wedding caterers.
Marquee & Outdoor Weddings
Our setup is completely self-sufficient — no kitchen, no power, no running water needed. This makes us the natural choice for marquee weddings in fields, gardens, clifftop sites, and remote Cornish locations where other caterers can't operate. We bring everything and leave nothing behind. We've catered at some of Cornwall's most dramatic wedding locations — clifftop fields above the Atlantic, hidden valleys accessed by single-track lanes, and farmland where the nearest power socket is half a mile away.
Interactive Wedding Stations
Our grazing cart stations add interactive fun to weddings. The Pimp Your Prosecco bar is perfect for the drinks reception — guests build their own cocktails and it doubles as the toasting station. The donut dunking bar and NYC bagel bar work brilliantly as evening food. The Eton Mess dessert station adds a sweet finish. These stations create social focal points and are guaranteed crowd-pleasers.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should we book wedding catering in Cornwall?
Peak season weddings between May and September should be booked at least three to six months ahead. We get fully booked on popular summer Saturdays early in the year. Midweek and off-season weddings can often be arranged with shorter notice, sometimes just a few weeks.
Can you cater a wedding in a field with no facilities?
Yes — this is one of our specialities. We arrive completely self-sufficient with our own charcoal, gas, water, prep tables, and serving equipment. No mains power or kitchen required. We've catered weddings in clifftop fields, remote farmland, and woodland clearings across Cornwall where there was nothing but grass and a view.
What does wedding catering cost per head in Cornwall?
It depends on what you choose. A hog roast wedding breakfast starts from around £12 per head. A full day package with canapés, main meal, and evening food typically runs between £25 and £40 per head depending on the menu. That's significantly less than most hotel wedding packages in Cornwall, and the food is freshly cooked on-site rather than reheated in a commercial kitchen.
Do you provide crockery and cutlery for weddings?
We provide quality disposable plates, napkins, and wooden cutlery as standard with all wedding bookings. If you want china plates and metal cutlery for a more formal look, we can arrange that as an upgrade or you can supply your own. Many couples hire tableware separately to match their table styling.
Can you accommodate vegan and gluten-free guests at a wedding?
Absolutely. We cater for all dietary requirements as standard — vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, and any other allergen-specific needs. We label everything clearly and can prepare separate dishes for guests with complex allergies. Just give us the details when you book and we'll build it into your menu.
