Catering in St Austell — Eden Project, Carlyon Bay, and Everything Between

St Austell is mid-Cornwall's biggest town and one of its most diverse event destinations. You've got the world-famous Eden Project just outside town, the clifftop luxury of Carlyon Bay to the south, the UNESCO World Heritage harbour at Charlestown, and rolling farmland stretching north towards Bodmin Moor. It's a town with range — from intimate harbour weddings to conferences for hundreds.

Salt Wind Catering covers St Austell from our base in Redruth — about 35 minutes on the A30 and A391. Whether it's a marquee wedding overlooking St Austell Bay, a corporate event at one of the Carlyon Bay hotels, a birthday at a village hall in Pentewan or Tregrehan, or a wake at Polgooth village hall, we bring fresh, handmade food that matches the quality of the setting.

We're fully self-sufficient — we bring our own kit, cook on-site, serve, and clear up. From intimate gatherings in the china clay villages to large events along the coast, we handle the food so you can enjoy the occasion.

What We Bring to Your St Austell Event

Everything we serve is freshly prepared, homemade, and built around proper Cornish ingredients. No packet food, no reheated trays. Here's what we offer:

Event & Party Buffets

Event & Party Buffets — Freshly made platters delivered to your St Austell venue. Village halls in Polgooth, Tregrehan, and Pentewan, private homes across the town, hotel function rooms, and community spaces throughout the St Austell area. Perfect for birthdays, christenings, wakes, and gatherings where you want proper food without the fuss.

Hog Roast Catering

Hog Roast Catering — A whole hog turning on a spit with St Austell Bay as your backdrop. We source from trusted local Cornish farms and cook on-site — ideal for summer weddings in the grounds of Carlyon Bay venues, garden parties in the farmland around Tywardreath and Luxulyan, and milestone celebrations where you want a real centrepiece.

BBQ Catering

BBQ Catering — Premium charcoal BBQs with proper meats, vibrant sides, and genuine smoke flavour. A natural fit for St Austell's coastal and countryside venues — great for garden parties, wedding receptions, sports club socials, and community events across the Par and Mevagissey area.

Giant Pan Catering

Giant Pan Catering — Authentic paella, aromatic curries, and more — cooked live in our giant pans. A real showstopper for outdoor events, marquee weddings, and festival-style celebrations. With the Eden Project nearby setting the standard for theatrical food experiences, our giant pan cooking fits right in.

Grazing Platters & Boards

Grazing Platters — Savoury, sweet, vegetarian, low-gluten, brunch, fruit — we've got a platter for every occasion. Delivered across St Austell and the surrounding villages, available last-minute, 7 days a week — including same-day and next-day delivery.

St Austell Venues and Locations We Cover

Whether your event is at a formal venue or a private home, we handle the logistics so you don't have to. Here are some of the St Austell-area locations we deliver to and set up at:

Carlyon Bay Hotel

Carlyon Bay Hotel is Cornwall's premier clifftop wedding and events hotel — perched above St Austell Bay with spectacular sea views, a spa, golf course, and function spaces for up to 150 guests. The Bay View Restaurant, outdoor gazebo, and Carlyon Suite provide stunning spaces for ceremonies, receptions, and evening celebrations. Over 35 years of wedding experience and a one-wedding-per-day policy.

Charlestown Harbour

Charlestown Harbour is one of Cornwall's most iconic locations — a Grade II listed Georgian harbour and UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to a fleet of classic tall ships. The Round House at the harbour's edge hosts intimate ceremonies for up to 8, while the Inner Harbour accommodates larger celebrations for up to 70 guests. Featured in Poldark, this is a venue unlike any other in Cornwall.

The Eden Project & Surrounding Venues

The Eden Project needs no introduction — it's one of the UK's most spectacular wedding and event venues, hosting ceremonies inside the Biomes themselves. The surrounding area is packed with quality venues too, including Knightor Winery — a boutique working winery with a rustic barn and stunning views above St Austell Bay. Our self-contained catering setup works perfectly alongside these venues.

Private Venues, Holiday Lets & Village Halls

Not every event happens at a formal venue. We deliver to and set up at private homes and gardens across the St Austell area — Pentewan, Polgooth, Tregrehan, Tywardreath, Par, and Mevagissey. Holiday parks and self-catering lets throughout Carlyon Bay and the south coast. Farm venues and barn conversions in the countryside around Luxulyan and the Luxulyan Valley. Village halls, community centres, and sports clubs. If there's road access and space for us to work, we can cater there.

Not Just Eden Project

Eden gets the global headlines, but St Austell is a community that celebrates all year round. We cater for everything here. Marquee weddings on clifftop grounds and countryside farms. Birthday parties from 18ths to 80ths. Funeral wakes and memorial gatherings handled with care and dignity. Christmas party catering when you want something better than a supermarket platter. Film and TV crew catering for productions filming at Charlestown and along the south coast. Community events and festival support. And emergency catering and welfare support — we've worked alongside National Grid during severe weather, feeding communities and frontline crews.

Why Salt Wind?

We're 5-star food hygiene rated, FSB members, and NCASS registered. Everything is made from scratch using locally sourced Cornish produce — no packet food, no shortcuts. St Austell is surrounded by some of Cornwall's best farmland and fishing harbours, and that local sourcing shows in everything we serve.

We've provided catering support for organisations including the NHS, National Grid, Cornwall Council, WWF, and Savills. Our hog roast and BBQ setups are fully self-contained — we don't need your venue's power, water, or kitchen facilities. We set up, we cook, we serve, we clear, and we leave the space as we found it.

Corporate & Business Catering in St Austell

St Austell has a growing corporate events scene. The St Austell Conference Centre in the town centre, the Carlyon Bay Hotel's conference facilities, and the Eden Project's corporate packages all draw businesses from across the south-west. The area's mix of world-class attractions and quality venues makes it an increasingly popular choice for away days and client hospitality.

Working Lunches & Meeting Catering

Need to feed a team for a planning day or a client group for a presentation? We deliver fresh, homemade buffets and platter selections directly to your meeting room, office, or event space in St Austell. Our corporate menus include hot and cold options, and we always accommodate dietary requirements without needing to be chased.

Team Events & Away Days

For bigger occasions — summer BBQs on clifftop hotel grounds, Christmas parties, team-building events with an Eden Project visit followed by a hog roast, or client hospitality at Charlestown Harbour — we bring the full outdoor catering setup. Hog roasts, charcoal BBQs, and giant pan cooking all work brilliantly for corporate events in St Austell where the setting does half the work.

Frequently Asked Questions — Catering in St Austell

How far in advance should I book catering for a St Austell event?

For weddings and large events, we recommend at least 4–6 weeks — and for peak summer at Carlyon Bay and Charlestown, earlier is better as venues book up fast. For buffets and platters, we can often accommodate bookings with just a few days' notice. For grazing platters, we offer same-day and next-day delivery.

Can you cater at Charlestown Harbour?

We can cater at private venues and celebrations around Charlestown. The harbour itself has its own catering arrangements, but for private events in gardens, holiday lets, and nearby venues, we're a natural choice. We know the area well and can advise on logistics for your specific location.

Do you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes. Every menu we put together accommodates vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free guests as standard. If you have specific allergies or requirements, let us know when you enquire and we'll build the menu around them.

What's the minimum order or guest count?

There's no minimum for buffets and grazing platters — we cater for groups as small as 10. For hog roasts, you'll typically need around 60 guests to make a whole hog worthwhile, but we can do smaller pig options for groups of 30+.

Do you provide plates, cutlery, and napkins?

Yes. All our catering includes biodegradable plates, cutlery, napkins, and serving equipment as standard. If you'd prefer proper crockery for a more formal event, we can arrange that too.

How much does catering in St Austell cost?

It depends on the service, guest count, and menu. Grazing platters start from around £30, buffets from around £8–12 per head, and hog roasts vary by size. Every quote is bespoke — request a free quote and we'll price it up for you.

Do you cater for events outside St Austell?

Absolutely. We cover the whole of Cornwall and into Devon. From St Austell we regularly travel to Bodmin, Fowey, Truro, Newquay, Falmouth, and everywhere in between.
