Catering in Mevagissey | Harbour Hog Roasts & BBQs | Salt Wind
Event catering in Mevagissey — Salt Wind Catering brings hog roasts, BBQs and sharing platters to harbour weddings, holiday-let parties and clifftop celebrations across the south-coast fishing village from our Redruth base.
Getting to Mevagissey — narrow lanes, harbour access
Mevagissey is a working fishing village. The harbour roads are narrow and pedestrianised in the inner village, and the main car park sits up at the top of Valley Road. We plan deliveries around that — kit goes in via the harbour-side lane early, or we work to the customer's holiday-let or village-hall postcode further out (Polmassick, Gorran, Heligan, Portmellon). Travel from our Redruth base is around 45 minutes, longer on summer Saturdays through St Austell.
Mevagissey events we cater
Harbour weddings and reception drinks at private holiday lets are the bread and butter — typically 30 to 80 guests, BBQ or hog roast on a garden lawn or terrace overlooking the bay. We also cover Coast Path walking-group dinners at village halls, family birthdays at the larger holiday cottages, and corporate retreats at the inland Heligan / Caerhays venues.
Hog roast for Mevagissey weddings
A whole Cornish hog feeds 80 to 100 guests, cooked on-site over 6 to 8 hours. We bring the spit, the gas (no mains needed), and the team. Apple sauce, sage stuffing, fresh bread rolls and slaw included. See our hog roast catering Cornwall page for the full spec.
BBQ catering for holiday-let parties
Real-charcoal BBQ from 20 guests, scaled up to 150. Burgers from quality mince, Cornish sausages, marinated chicken, vegetarian and vegan options as standard. Sides are homemade in our Redruth kitchen — not bought-in coleslaws. See BBQ catering Cornwall.
Giant-pan paella, tagine & street food
For 50+ guests, giant-pan cooking is a spectacle and a serving solution at once. Fresh seafood paella with prawns and mussels from the harbour fishmongers works particularly well in Mevagissey. See giant pan catering Cornwall.
Beyond weddings — wakes, holiday lets, corporate
We cover wake catering at Mevagissey village halls and family homes (sandwich platters, hot savouries, scones with clotted cream — see funeral catering). Holiday-let welcome hampers timed to arrival. Corporate retreats at the heritage estates inland.
Why Salt Wind Catering for Mevagissey
5-star Food Hygiene Rating from Cornwall Council. NCASS accredited. Off-grid kitchen — gas, water, waste, all our own. We don't need a kitchen at your venue. We don't bring corporate fluff or front-of-house staff — we cook, plate up and leave the place as we found it.
Frequently Asked Questions — Catering in Mevagissey
Can you access Mevagissey harbour for setup?
Yes — we plan delivery around the village's narrow lanes. Setup happens before the harbour gets busy, or we use the main car park at Valley Road for transfers. Tell us the postcode and we'll route accordingly.
What's the minimum guest count for Mevagissey catering?
20 guests for delivered platters and BBQ. 50 guests for on-site hog roast (Cornish whole-hog minimum). Call 01209 206255 for smaller groups — sometimes we can flex around an existing job in the area.
Do you cater Mevagissey holiday lets and Airbnbs?
Yes — that's a big part of our south-coast work. Welcome hampers timed to arrival, mid-stay BBQ, end-of-stay clearance hampers. See holiday home catering.
Do you handle dietary requirements?
Vegetarian and vegan options as standard. Allergens available on request — we cover the 14 major UK allergens. For severe nut or coeliac allergies we'll be honest: the kitchen handles both, so we recommend EpiPen on hand for guests with anaphylaxis-grade allergies.
How far in advance should I book Mevagissey catering?
Weddings: 6-12 months. Summer weekends in July and August book up fastest. Wakes: 1-3 days lead time is fine — we mobilise quickly. Holiday-let drops: 48 hours is enough.
