Most of what Salt Wind Catering does is private parties. Eighteenths in the back garden, retirement dos at the village hall, hen weekends in a barn conversion, christenings in a marquee, milestone birthdays at the local rugby club. We are a small Cornish cook team, not a faceless events company, and the food is the food we would serve our own families.
For most parties between 5 and 50 guests, the answer is a delivered buffet (cold from £7.95pp, hot from £16.95pp) dropped to the venue and set up on platters. For 50 guests and up, on-site cooking, charcoal BBQ, hog roast, or a 1m giant paella pan, is where it starts to make sense.
We cover every postcode in Cornwall with no travel charge anywhere in the county on food we cook on site, and a set £20–£50 buffet delivery charge past Newquay and St Austell, free on orders over £500, plus most of Devon, where Devon travel is free on orders over £1,500, or over £500 for Plymouth and Tavistock, and £1 per mile round-trip from Redruth below that. Garden party, 50+ guests
Charcoal BBQ or hog roast as a centrepiece. The cook team becomes part of the party, guests gather round the grill, watch the carving, take photos. Best fit for summer garden parties, milestone birthdays in a marquee, multi-generational family gatherings.
Sit-down lunch or dinner
Hot buffet, curry and rice, lasagne, slow-cooked beef, veggie tagine, delivered hot in insulated boxes, served on platters. From £16.95pp. Right for christenings, wakes, anniversary lunches, retirement parties.
Daytime, afternoon vibe
Afternoon tea boards, finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, traybakes, fruit. Suitable for baby showers, christenings, retirement parties, ladies’ birthdays.
Theatrical / something different
Giant-pan paella or rotating street-food stations. A 90cm pan cooked in front of guests, or loaded fries, halloumi skewers, vegan chilli served from a station. Works for hen weekends, milestone birthdays where you want a story, festivals.

Delivered buffets start from 20 guests, a cold finger buffet for 20 is £159. On-site cooking, BBQ, hog roast, giant-pan paella, has a 50-guest minimum because the cook-team set-up only makes sense at that scale. For parties between 20 and 50 the right answer is almost always a delivered hot or cold buffet, dropped at the venue and set up on platters.
Two to six weeks is the sweet spot for most private parties. Peak summer Saturdays (June–August) and Christmas-party season fill up fastest, book 6–8 weeks ahead for those. Short-notice enquiries sometimes work out, especially for delivered buffets; call us on 01209 206255 and we will check.
Both. We cater at private homes, gardens, village halls, marquees, holiday lets, dry-hire venues, and licensed venues that allow external caterers. For on-site cooking we need a level pitch with vehicle access; for delivered buffets we just need somewhere to set up the platters.

Yes, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options on every menu. For specific allergies, mention them at quote stage and we will confirm what is safe and suggest alternatives. Allergen information is available on request per FIR 2014. We do not currently offer halal catering.
We are a cook team, not a front-of-house service. We deliver food on disposable platters (or, for on-site cooking, serve straight from our station). We do not provide china, glassware, table linen or waiting staff. For larger formal events you would source those separately, most marquee and dry-hire venues have preferred suppliers.
Cold party buffets start from £7.95 per head, hot buffets from £16.95. On-site BBQ £9.95–£22 per head, on-site hog roast £11–£22 per head, depending on menu and headcount. Giant-pan paella around £12.25 per head. Devon travel is free over £500 to Plymouth and Tavistock and over £1,500 elsewhere; Cornwall is always free.
