Film crew eating a hot meal at a unit base — on-set catering by Salt Wind Catering

Somerset ranges from Georgian Bath — a Bridgerton and Persuasion set-piece — to the Mendips, the Levels and the Exmoor fringe. Salt Wind Catering works each location on its own terms: live cooking at the unit base where access allows, drop-and-serve where it does not.

Somerset filming locations — catering notes

01

Bath

Georgian crescents and streets doubling for Regency London (Bridgerton, Persuasion, Les Misérables). City-centre base access is tight — early load-in and hot-box to set.

02

Wells & Vicars’ Close

Cathedral city that doubled for Sandford in Hot Fuzz, and a Wolf Hall location. Compact bases planned around footfall.

03

Cheddar Gorge & the Mendips

Dramatic limestone cliffs and caves. Off-grid is the norm; generators and gas handle the exposure.

04

Montacute House

Elizabethan mansion (Wolf Hall, Sense and Sensibility). National Trust country-house base with easy access.

05

Glastonbury Tor

Iconic hill — period and fantasy territory. We base at the foot and shuttle hot food up as the shoot requires.

06

Clevedon Pier

Victorian pier on the Bristol Channel (Never Let Me Go, and Broadchurch series). Seafront base with good vehicle access.

07

Dunster Castle & village

Medieval village and National Trust castle on the West Somerset coast. Country-house unit-bases coordinated around visitors.

08

The Somerset Levels

Wetland, willow and wide skies with remote farm bases. Fully self-contained — no mains power required.

Self-contained mobile kitchen — gas, generators, water and refrigeration on board. No mains power or venue kitchen needed.

How we approach access

Every filming location has its own constraints — vehicle access, pitch size, kit-carrying distance, mains availability (almost always none), wind exposure and landowner conditions. We coordinate with the production location manager in advance on every shoot.

Where the unit can pitch at the shoot point we run the mobile kitchen live; where access stops short we set up a sensible unit base nearby and run scheduled hot-boxed service rounds. Either way the food gets there hot and on time. We travel from our Cornwall base — travel, and accommodation for multi-day shoots, is confirmed in writing up front.

Somerset Filming Locations FAQs

Yes. Salt Wind Catering is set up to feed crews at the Somerset locations on this page. Each has its own access constraints, which we coordinate with the production location manager in advance. We travel from our Cornwall base with a fully self-contained mobile kitchen.
Drop-and-serve. We cook at a sensible nearby unit base where the vehicle can park, then hot-box and deliver to the shoot point on a scheduled service round.
Usually yes — many headline locations are National Trust, council or private-estate sites. The production location manager handles permissions; we work to whatever pitch is allocated and flag any kit-access constraints in advance.
Central Bath — heritage restrictions mean we base off the crescents and streets and hot-box to set, with early load-in agreed with the city film office.
