Blue Light Catering

Hot food for crews working through it

Salt Wind Catering provides welfare feeding for blue-light crews across Cornwall — police, fire & rescue, ambulance, HM Coastguard, RNLI, and search & rescue. We mobilise within 2 to 4 hours of a confirmed request, work to the operational schedule, and stay as long as needed.

Our mobile kitchen is fully self-contained — our own gas, our own water, our own setup. No mains power, no kitchen, no infrastructure required at the incident scene. We have run this for multi-day storm response, overnight searches, and extended training deployments. Hot meals, refreshments, overnight feeding, all to the dietary and operational requirements of the lead agency.

Procurement-side: we already run net-30 accounts with the NHS, Cornwall Council and National Grid. Public-sector onboarding is fast — supplier paperwork, insurances, hygiene rating and HACCP procedures available before deployment.

Station catering & open days

Station events, recruitment days, public-engagement events, community open days. From hot rolls for the crew to buffets for the public — same service, different scale.

How we mobilise

  1. Initial brief. Phone or email from the lead agency. We confirm location, crew size, anticipated duration, and dietary requirements.
  2. Mobilisation. Mobile kitchen loaded and on the road within 2–4 hours of confirmation. ETA confirmed back to the operational lead.
  3. On-scene setup. Fully self-contained — our own gas, water and pitch. We park where you tell us. Hot food and refreshments ready within 60 minutes of arrival.
  4. Rotation. For multi-day operations we rotate cook teams to maintain 24/7 cover. Menu varies by day to avoid repetition.
  5. Stand-down & invoice. Pack down on order. Net-30 invoice to the contracting agency with full incident accounting attached.

For an out-of-area deployment we reach any incident within 300 road miles of the kitchen — the same area we publish for film and TV unit catering. The 2–4 hour mobilisation above is a Cornwall figure; further out the window is agreed at the briefing call.

Who counts as a blue-light client?
Police, fire & rescue, ambulance trusts, HM Coastguard, RNLI, search & rescue teams, and the wider emergency-response community. We also cover military exercises and Civil Contingencies welfare feeding under the same approach.
How quickly can you mobilise?
Same-day for standing welfare feeding within Cornwall — typically on-scene within 2 to 4 hours of a confirmed request, depending on the incident location and our current schedule. For pre-planned operations, training exercises, and station-based catering we work to your timetable.
Can you feed crews around the clock?
Yes. For multi-day incidents and operations we rotate hot meals, refreshments and overnight feeding for as long as needed. We have done this on storm response, search operations, and extended training deployments.
Do you have public-sector procurement in place?
We work with the NHS, Cornwall Council and National Grid on net-30 invoicing with no deposit on agreed accounts. What food do you provide for welfare feeding?
Hot main meals (stews, curries, pasta bakes, hot pies), refreshments (tea, coffee, bacon and sausage baps), and packed cold options for crews on the move. Menu adapts to incident length, working conditions, and dietary requirements.
Can you cater on-scene with no power or kitchen access?
Yes. Our mobile kitchen is fully self-contained — our own gas, our own water tanks, our own setup. We have catered on cliff-top rescues, field-station deployments, and overnight standbys with nothing but a flat patch of ground to set up on.
Are you food-hygiene rated and insured for emergency catering?
5-star FSA hygiene rating, full Public Liability Insurance, NCASS membership, and HACCP-aligned procedures. Documentation available before deployment.
Do you cater for blue-light dietary and religious requirements?
Yes — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and any other documented requirements. Multi-faith and multi-dietary crews are routine. We label everything clearly on the serving station.
How are blue-light jobs invoiced?
For approved public-sector accounts: net-30 invoice, no deposit, single PO per incident or rolling monthly billing. For commercial emergency-response contractors: standard 30/70 split or net-30 by agreement. Discuss at the framework setup stage.
Do you charge for travel or delivery?
There is no travel charge anywhere in Cornwall and no minimum spend — standard pricing everywhere, from Penzance to Bude. Devon is quoted separately: travel is included on orders over £1,500 (£500 for Plymouth and Tavistock), and below that it is £1 per mile round-trip from our Redruth kitchen, always confirmed in writing before you commit. Those are our delivered-catering terms and they apply within Cornwall and Devon only. Beyond Devon, travel and any crew accommodation are quoted per deployment and agreed in writing before you commit — the per-mile rate does not apply to an out-of-area incident.
