Cardiff and South Wales are one of the UK’s busiest HETV hubs — Wolf Studios Wales, Cardiff Bay and a wealth of castles and coast that have hosted Doctor Who, His Dark Materials and Torchwood. Salt Wind Catering crosses the Severn to feed the crew at studio and location bases alike.

Cardiff filming locations — catering notes
Wolf Studios Wales
Bad Wolf’s stages (Doctor Who, His Dark Materials, Havoc). Stage-door HETV crew feeding — see our dedicated Wolf Studios catering page.
Cardiff Bay & Roald Dahl Plass
The Doctor Who and Torchwood heartland. Bay bases with city access, planned around the waterfront.
Castell Coch
Fairytale Gothic-revival castle in woodland (Doctor Who and much fantasy drama). We base at the foot and carry or shuttle up.
Southerndown / Dunraven Bay
Dramatic Glamorgan Heritage Coast (Doctor Who’s "Bad Wolf Bay"). Off-grid beach — we base at the car park and run hot food down.
Cardiff Castle & Bute Park
Castle and central parkland doubling for many periods. Central bases coordinated with the film office.
Barry Island
Gavin & Stacey country and a Doctor Who regular. Seaside bases with good vehicle access.
St Fagans
Open-air national history museum — a ready-made period village. Bases at the visitor areas, coordinated with the museum.
National Museum & Civic Centre
Grand Portland-stone civic architecture standing in for many cities. Central bases with permits via the film office.

How we approach access
Every filming location has its own constraints — vehicle access, pitch size, kit-carrying distance, mains availability (almost always none), wind exposure and landowner conditions. We coordinate with the production location manager in advance on every shoot.
Where the unit can pitch at the shoot point we run the mobile kitchen live; where access stops short we set up a sensible unit base nearby and run scheduled hot-boxed service rounds. Either way the food gets there hot and on time. We travel from our Cornwall base — travel, and accommodation for multi-day shoots, is confirmed in writing up front.
