First-Night Family-Reunion Catering at Your Cornwall Holiday Let

First-Night Family-Reunion Catering at Your Cornwall Holiday Let

First-night family-reunion catering for your Cornwall holiday let. Pre-order a hot buffet or cold platter for 8-12 people, delivered to the door on Friday evening so the family eats within thirty minutes of arrival. Order 48 hours ahead, leave key-safe access details, and skip the supermarket queue entirely.

The Five-Hour-Drive Scenario

You've left the M25 at ten past two. The kids were fine until Bristol. Now it's six in the evening, you're on the A30 past Bodmin, and there's still forty minutes of driving plus a key-safe to find. The last thing anyone wants is a Tesco run.

This is the case for pre-ordering a first-night drop. Salt Wind Catering will deliver food to your Cornwall holiday let on the day you arrive, ready to eat the moment you walk through the door. No cooking. No washing-up beyond a few plates. No queue at the village shop that shuts at seven.

Hot Buffet or Cold Platter, What Works on a Friday Night?

For a family-reunion arrival, the choice usually comes down to timing. If you know roughly when you'll land, say, six to seven in the evening, a hot buffet works. We deliver it hot, in foil-lidded trays, around the time you arrive. Think pulled pork rolls, chicken curry with rice, lasagne with garlic bread, or a proper chilli with all the bits. Filling, kids-friendly, ready to go straight onto the table.

If the arrival window is vague, anywhere between five and eight, a cold platter is easier. We can drop it earlier and leave it in the fridge. Sandwich platters, sausage rolls, quiche, cheese boards, fruit platters. Cold food doesn't mind waiting.

What's the Pre-Order Lead Time?

For first-night drops we ask for at least 48 hours' notice. That's the minimum to get fresh ingredients in, prep the food, and slot the delivery into the day's run. If you're arriving Friday evening, get the order in by Wednesday evening at the latest.

More notice is better. Ten days out is comfortable. A fortnight is ideal if you're catering a multi-night stay with brunch and Saturday-lunch follow-ups.

Who's Home to Receive the Delivery?

This is the bit families forget. If you're on the road, nobody's at the cottage to take a delivery. Three options work.

Key-safe access. Send us the code. We let ourselves in, leave the food in the fridge or on the worktop with a note. Most Cornwall holiday lets have a key-safe now, so this is the common route.

Property manager or cleaner. If the changeover cleaner is leaving as you arrive, we can time the drop for then. Many letting agencies are happy to coordinate this.

Meet on arrival. If your arrival time is tight, we can run a delivery window. Less reliable on the A30 in August, more reliable in shoulder season.

Sample First-Night Menus for 10 People

Rough prices, confirmed when you enquire.

Hot buffet, around £150 to £180 for 10. Pulled pork rolls with slaw and chips, a side salad, and a fruit platter. Add a pasta bake for the kids and you're at £200.

Cold platter, around £120 to £150 for 10. Sandwich platter, sausage rolls, quiche slices, cheese and biscuits, fruit. Plenty for a tired family who'll graze rather than sit down properly.

Family-style sharing, around £180 to £220 for 10. A whole roasted chicken or lamb shoulder, dauphinoise potatoes, two salads, bread. More of an event than a feed-and-collapse.

Brunch and Saturday-Lunch Follow-Up

Most family reunions don't stop at Friday night. Saturday morning is the next problem.

We can drop a brunch platter on Saturday morning, around eight thirty. Pastries, fruit, yoghurt, granola, bacon-and-egg rolls if you want hot. From £60 for 10.

Saturday lunch is often a picnic if the weather plays ball. We can pack picnic boxes, sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps, fruit, brownie, individually wrapped so the kids can grab and go on the beach. From £9.45 per person. The family cooks the rest of the weekend, or doesn't. See also catering in Padstow if your holiday let's on the north coast.
