What is event crew catering?
Event crew catering feeds the workforce behind an event rather than the crowd in front of it, the staff, volunteers, marshals, build crews and medical teams, and the participants when they finish. Salt Wind Catering runs it the way we run a film unit: a self-contained kitchen on your site, hot breakfast before the first shift, hot lunch and dinner every day, and a continuous service through the night where the event needs one. Staff and volunteers are priced per person per service day and participants per meal, so the numbers can stay flexible until your final registrations are in.
The crowd gets fed by vendors. Who feeds the crew?
An event village has a dozen food vendors for the public and, too often, a table of sandwiches for the three hundred people who built it and are running it. A volunteer who has been on a checkpoint since five in the morning does not need a choice of vendors. They need a hot meal, close, on time, and a hot drink in their hand.
That is a crew feed, and it is what we do on location for film and television units: a kitchen that arrives with its own power and water, cooks to a schedule set by someone else, and serves the whole workforce inside the gap it has been given. Our next event contract runs four days with a finisher service through the night. The model is the same whether the event is a trail race, a regatta, an air show or a county show.

How it runs
The film-unit model, applied to an event site.
One team, the whole event
The same cook team from the first build day to the last de-rig, so the standard on day four is the standard on day one.
Prep at our kitchen, finished on site
The long, slow cooking happens at our kitchen in Redruth. Food travels sealed hot in insulated boxes, holds temperature the whole way, and the cooking is finished and served from the counter on your site.
Built around your schedule
Your event schedule is our call sheet. Service times, volumes and the overnight curve come from you; the rota comes from us.
Self-contained
Own gas, power, water, refrigeration and waste. A field with nothing on it is the normal case, not the exception.
300 road miles from the kitchen
Based in Redruth, Cornwall. Multi-day events anywhere within 300 road miles of the kitchen, the same area we publish for film and TV unit catering. The kitchen travels with the team and stays for the duration.
