On-set catering for Oxfordshire productions

Salt Wind Catering feeds film and TV crews across Oxfordshire, from a single shoot day upwards — we do not require a multi-day block to take the job. The mobile kitchen is fully self-contained, carrying its own gas, generators, water and refrigeration, so a location with no mains and no hookup is a normal working day rather than a problem to solve.

Where a studio stage already has a house caterer in place, that is their day. Where we earn the job is the location half of a Oxfordshire schedule — the estates, the woodland, the airfields and the sites with no facility — and the productions running multi-location shoots where the same cook team follows the unit rather than being re-tendered county by county.

Distance is priced honestly. Oxfordshire is about 248 road miles from our kitchen, inside the radius we cover but far enough that travel and, on anything past a single day, crew accommodation go into the quote at the outset. Producers get a written figure the same day during office hours, and that figure is what appears on the invoice.

Coverage

We travel to set — from Cornwall to Oxfordshire

Unit catering is a travel-to-location business. From our Cornwall base the self-contained mobile kitchen reaches your unit base anywhere within 300 road miles — travel, and accommodation for multi-day shoots, agreed in writing up front.

Oxfordshire Coverage

Where we cater in Oxfordshire

Studios, estates and locations we are set up for — and what each one means for a unit base.

01

Blenheim Palace & estate

A World Heritage estate with long approaches and tightly governed vehicle positions. We base where the estate agreement allows and run hot food the last stretch to unit.

02

The Oxford colleges

Quadrangles, halls and lanes with severe access limits and strict time windows. A small base footprint and a load-in planned with the location manager, every time.

03

Bicester & the Heritage quarter

Hangars, hardstanding and wide vehicle access — the easiest kind of Oxfordshire day for a full unit base cooked on site.

04

Waterperry, Rousham & estate gardens

Gardens and country houses where the pitch is often soft ground. We plan the base with the location manager and carry in where vehicles cannot go.

05

The Chiltern edge & Ridgeway

Beech woodland, chalk downland and narrow lanes. Limited parking means a compact base and hot food carried the final stretch.

06

Didcot, Harwell & the industrial sites

Decommissioned plant and campus sites with hardstanding and power on tap — straightforward bases where the schedule allows live cooking.

Live cooking at the unit base

Crews respond to a fire and a smell in the air. We cook live at base wherever the location allows.

Hog roast

Cornish pork joints slow-roasted over hours at unit base. Crackling, apple sauce, fresh rolls — a wrap-day favourite.

Charcoal BBQ

Real charcoal grilling at the unit base. Flexible portion rounds, multiple proteins, sides cooked alongside.

Giant pan

Paellas, curries and tagines cooked in front of the crew. Cost-effective at scale and a proper morale lift.

Street food

Live-cooked street-food formats — flatbreads, gyros, loaded fries, tacos. Fast service, hot food, short queues.

“We had big pans from salt wind for our wedding and the food was AMAZING. Mark and his team could not have been more helpful throughout the whole process and were a dream to work with. Nothing was ever too much trouble and so many people have said how lovely the food was. I’d book them for another event in a heart beat!”

Yes — it is what the kitchen is built for. We carry our own gas, generators, water and refrigeration, so no mains hook-up is needed.
