When the response gets stood up

Salt Wind Catering provides incident response catering and emergency feeding across Cornwall and Devon. Hot food for response teams. Welfare for displaced residents. A visible, reassuring presence at rest centres, reception points and forward bases — at scale, fast.

We have deployed with National Grid during power outages and work with councils and organised response teams. The kitchen is fully self-contained, so the moment something serious goes wrong with local infrastructure, we are not part of the problem.

Response Posture

Where we deploy

Welfare and feeding across the kinds of incidents Cornwall and Devon emergency planners actually rehearse for.

Flooding response

Hot meals for response crews and displaced residents. Off-grid setup means we operate when local infrastructure is down.

Wildfire support

Welfare for fire and rescue crews working in shifts on extended incidents. Hot drinks station and substantial hot food.

Major incident welfare

Reception centre and rest centre catering coordinated with the local authority emergency planning team.

Power outage response

National Grid deployment experience — visible welfare hubs supporting residents and frontline engineers.

Response capabilities

Fast mobilisation

Self-contained kitchen rolls quickly. Pre-agreed call-off arrangements activate faster than ad-hoc procurement.

50 to 500-plus covers

Scaled team and equipment for the volume. Continuous service rotations on multi-day incidents.

Off-grid operation

No mains power, no mains water. We operate when local infrastructure is down — that is the point.

Local-authority coordination

Comfortable working alongside emergency planning leads, blue-light services and council teams in live incidents.

From 50 to 500-plus

Incident catering does not look like event catering. The numbers move during the deployment — residents arrive at a rest centre in waves, response shifts overlap, the geography of the incident shifts the welfare footprint.

Salt Wind Catering scales the kitchen and team to match. Service profile flexes up and down across the deployment. For multi-day incidents we run continuous rotations so the welfare point never closes. The food does not stop while the response is running.

Built for emergency planning teams

Pre-agreed call-off

Set the contract before the incident — activation is faster than ad-hoc procurement when you need us.

Single point of contact

One named contact during the deployment. Direct line, no call centre, decisions made on the ground.

Comfortable in live ops

Working alongside fire, ambulance, police, council teams and utility providers in pressured live situations.

Documentation pack

NCASS, hygiene certificate, insurance, RAMS, allergen procedure — sent direct to your approved supplier process.

Incident response FAQs

How fast can you mobilise for an incident?

Salt Wind Catering maintains readiness for rapid deployment and can mobilise welfare provision at short notice. Exact timescales depend on incident scale, location and access. Pre-agreed call-off arrangements with local authorities and response teams shorten activation further — call us to set one up.

What volumes can you cater in an incident?

We routinely scale from 50 to 500-plus covers per service. The kitchen, fuel and team are scaled to the event. For multi-day incidents we run continuous service rotations so the welfare point never closes.

Can you support a rest centre or evacuation point?

Yes. Hot food and drinks for displaced residents, a visible and reassuring welfare presence, and a service profile that scales as the incident evolves. We coordinate with the local authority emergency planning lead on the ground.

Are you set up for blue-light and civil contingency procurement?

Yes. NCASS member, 5-star food hygiene rating, £10 million public liability and employer liability insurance. We have deployed with National Grid during power outages and work with councils and organised response teams. Pre-approved supplier setup is welcomed.
