Cornwall is one of the top hen and stag destinations in the country and the food should match the rest of the weekend. Whether you've rented a cottage in Rock, a barn near Truro, or a holiday park outside Newquay, Salt Wind Catering delivers party food across Cornwall that's built for groups, not photo shoots.

What's on a Hen or Stag Spread?

We don't do drink stations, bars or cocktail service — we're a food-only caterer. So everything below is built around the food. The two formats that work best for hen and stag groups are sharing platters and on-site cooking.

Sharing platters are the workhorse — savoury platters with charcuterie, cheeses and dips, sandwich platters for lunch, hot buffet platters for something more substantial, and a sweet platter for dessert. Everything arrives ready to set out on the kitchen counter so the group can graze between activities.

For stag weekends in particular, on-site BBQ or hog roast is the proper call. Premium charcoal-cooked meat, generous portions, and we handle the cooking outside while the group does its thing.

Guest Numbers and How Much Food?

Hen parties usually run 10 to 25 guests. Stags lean a bit larger, often 15 to 30. Our delivered platter minimum is 20 portions — smaller groups can still order, we just balance the platter mix accordingly. On-site BBQ has a 50-guest minimum which most weekend parties don't hit, so platters or hog roast (50 guest minimum too on-site) are the usual picks.

As a rough portion guide for a hungry group after activities, allow six to seven savoury items per person plus dessert. For BBQ, plan around 300 to 350g of meat per person with sides on top. For a hog roast served in rolls, two filled rolls per guest is the standard.

Pricing Tiers for Hen and Stag Catering

Sharing and sandwich platter buffets start from around eight pounds per head. Hot fork buffets sit around twelve to fifteen pounds per head. On-site BBQ runs from around eighteen pounds per head depending on the meat selection. Hog roast is priced per pig with a per-head guide of around twelve to fourteen pounds when you hit the minimum. Logistics — Delivery to Cottages and Venues

We deliver to holiday cottages, Airbnbs, barn venues and holiday parks across Cornwall. From Newquay and St Ives over to Rock & Polzeath, Padstow, Falmouth and the south coast. Platters arrive plated, covered and labelled, ready to go straight onto the kitchen counter.

For BBQ or hog roast we bring everything ourselves — grills, charcoal, prep tables, the lot. We just need a flat outdoor patch big enough for our 3m by 6m cook gazebo. No kitchen, no running water, no power required. We don't supply waiting staff for hen and stag groups — the food is set out, you self-serve, we clear the platters away or hand over the leftovers depending on the booking.

Hen and Stag Catering FAQ

Can you deliver to a holiday cottage or Airbnb?

Yes. Most of our hen and stag bookings are to rented properties across Cornwall. We deliver to the door, set the platters out on the counter, and leave you to it.

Do you supply drinks or a bar?

No. We don't do bar service, drink stations or cocktail packages. The group sorts its own drinks, usually a supermarket run or a separate mobile bar hire.

What works best for a stag weekend?

An on-site BBQ or hog roast if the venue allows it and you've got 50+ guests. For smaller stags, a hot buffet platter spread soaks up the day's drinks nicely.

How far ahead do we need to book?

Two to three weeks for platters. For BBQ or hog roast on a summer Saturday, book as early as you can — those dates fill in winter.
