The usual way

One person, one scoop, two hours

Most ice cream carts and vans arrive with a member of staff, four or five flavours and a two-hour window. Your guests queue, they get the portion they are given, and when the two hours are up it drives off.

Ours

Nine flavours, open four hours

We set the cabinet up cold and leave it with you. Nine Cornish flavours, cones and tubs stacked beside it, open for four hours. Nobody hovering, no queue, and people go back for a second one — which is rather the point.

One full cabinet is our minimum. It has nine wells and it goes out full — 45 litres, nine flavours, every time. We do not do a part-load or a shortened flavour list. Under 110 guests you are very welcome to book it; the price is the same, because it is the same delivery, the same setup and the same cabinet.

“We had big pans from salt wind for our wedding and the food was AMAZING. Mark and his team could not have been more helpful throughout the whole process and were a dream to work with. Nothing was ever too much trouble and so many people have said how lovely the food was. I’d book them for another event in a heart beat!”

“Saltwind came up to sunny Devon for Jo’s 60th party. Everyone absolutely loved the Hog Roast. We had a party of 55 and we were still finishing off the food at 3am. Mark and the guys were great and worked so hard to keep everyone fed. The crackling was awesome! And we all loved the beef as well! Was everything we wanted and more ! Cheers to Saltwind!”

How the hire works

We bring it, load it and leave it with you for four hours. Then we come back and take it away dirty.

We deliver and load it

We arrive ahead of your window, position the cabinet, load your nine flavours and set out cones, tubs, spoons, napkins, sauces and sprinkles. It runs off a normal 13-amp socket.

Your guests help themselves

Four hours, self-serve, as much as they like. Nobody from us stands behind it — there is no queue and no one deciding how big a scoop anybody gets.

We come back for it

We collect at the end of your window and take the cabinet away dirty. You don't touch the cleaning, and nothing is left for anyone to deal with.

Got Questions?

How much does ice cream hire cost?
From £545.00 inc VAT (£454.17 ex VAT). That covers a full cabinet — 45 litres, nine flavours, around 290 servings — set up at your venue for four hours with cones, tubs, spoons, napkins, sauces and sprinkles included. Bigger loads are £695.00 for 60 litres and £995.00 for 90 litres. No travel charge anywhere in Cornwall.
Do you stay and serve the ice cream?
No — and that is deliberate. This is a self-serve counter. We deliver the cabinet, load it, set out everything your guests need and leave it with you for four hours, then come back and take it away dirty. Most ice cream carts send one person with a scoop, which means a queue and a portion someone else decides. Yours is open for four hours and your guests help themselves as often as they like.
How many flavours do we get, and can we choose them?
Nine at a time, and yes — you pick them. Callestick Farm make 31 ice creams and 6 sorbets and we can bring any nine of them. Most ice cream carts in Cornwall offer four or five flavours in total.
What is the smallest booking you do?
One full cabinet — 45 litres, nine flavours, £545.00 inc VAT. The cabinet has nine wells and it goes out full; we do not do a part-load or a cut-down flavour list. If you have 60 guests rather than 110 you are welcome to book it, but the price is the same. It is the same delivery, the same setup and the same cabinet either way.
How many guests will one cabinet actually feed?
A full 45-litre cabinet gives around 290 servings, which comfortably covers 110 guests across four hours of self-service. We plan on two and a half servings a head rather than one, because when it is self-serve and open all afternoon people go back. If you are over 110, take the 60-litre or 90-litre load.
Will it melt if nobody is watching it?
No. It is a proper commercial scoop cabinet running below -18°C, not a tub in a bucket of ice, and it holds temperature perfectly well with the lids down between servings. The four-hour window is the control — we set it up cold, you use it, we collect. Longer than that and we would want to talk about how the day is running.
