Office Christmas Party Venues in Cornwall — What to Check Before You Book

Office Christmas Party Venues in Cornwall — What to Check Before You Book

Let us be straight with you from the top: we are not a venue. We are the caterer who turns up at whichever one you pick. Which is exactly why this is worth reading — we have spent years arriving at Cornish venues in December and finding out, on the day, what nobody checked.

We are not going to tell you which venue to book. That is your call, and every office party is different. But there are a handful of questions that decide whether your December goes smoothly, and most people booking a venue for the first time do not know to ask them.

Ask first: can you even bring a caterer in?

This is the one that catches people out, and it is worth asking in the first email, not the fifth.

A lot of venues are tied to their own in-house catering, or to an approved list. Some allow external caterers but charge for the privilege. Some allow it without fuss. None of that is unreasonable — but it decides everything else, and it is much easier to find out before you have fallen in love with the room.

If the answer is no, that is fine. Book the venue, eat their food, have a good night. Just find out now.

Access and parking

We arrive with vehicles and equipment. So: where do we park, how far is it from where the food needs to be, and is there anything in between — stairs, a gravel track, a locked gate, a cobbled courtyard?

None of these are dealbreakers. All of them are things we would rather know in November than discover at four o'clock on a dark December afternoon with a hundred people arriving at six.

The kitchen question — and why it usually does not matter

People assume they need a venue with a kitchen. Mostly you do not.

For a delivered buffet, there is nothing to cook — it arrives set out and ready to serve. For a hog roast or live cooking, we cook outside, in our own setup. What we need is somewhere to put it: roughly a 3m x 6m footprint for the gazebo, on ground that is reasonably firm and level.

We bring our own leads. If we need power at all, a standard 13-amp socket does it. A venue with no kitchen whatsoever is not a problem — it just changes which format makes sense.

The bit nobody thinks about: what happens at the end

What time does the venue want everyone out? Is there a noise curfew? When do you lose access to the room?

This matters more than people expect, because it decides whether late-evening food is even possible. If your party runs to midnight, something substantial at nine or ten transforms the night. If the venue is pushing everyone out at eleven, it does not.

And know who is clearing what. We pack down our equipment and take it with us. The venue's tables, the glassware, the room itself — that is between you and them. Sort out whose job that is before December, not during it.

How it changes by format

A delivered buffet gives you the most freedom. It works almost anywhere with a table and a door, which is why offices, village halls and hired rooms all suit it.

On-site cooking — hog roast, live-cooked pans — needs more from a venue: outdoor space, access, and a venue that is happy for us to cook there. In return you get food as the centrepiece rather than a tray at the side. That trade is usually worth it for a bigger party.

One geography note: for delivered buffets we cover TR and PL postcodes. If you are further into Devon, we can still cater your Christmas party, but it needs to be on-site rather than delivered. Ask us and we will tell you which side of the line you fall.

What we would actually suggest

Pick the room your team will enjoy being in. Then ask the venue the caterer question early, tell us what you have found, and we will tell you honestly what works there and what does not. If a venue rules out the format you had in mind, better to know it in October.

We have cooked in barns, offices, halls, marquees and car parks across Cornwall. There is usually a way. It is just much easier when the questions get asked in advance.
